On that warm summer night
in July,
I forgave you for what you’d said
for how can a man watch a starving dog
and not throw him a bone?

And then I fell in love.
I know because my heart
dropped into the contents of my stomach
and everything around me
acquired a new color.

I’d fallen faster than a physics textbook
dropped from the CN Tower.
